Review: Fire in Babylon - The story of West Indies domination
With hundreds of cricket books, websites, magazines and films out there it is sometimes hard to determine which ones are any good and worth your time. So I’ve decided to try and make your life a little easier by giving you little reviews of cricket books, websites, magazines or films that I’ve read, visited and watched. This week is the cricket film… Fire in Babylon.Fire in Babylon is a feature documentary about the great West Indies cricket team of the 1970?s and 80?s. The film is excellently directed by Stevan Riley and gives a fantastic insight into how these group of men became legends in not just West Indian sporting history but in global sporting history.
The film follows the story through the eyes of the players as well as some West Indian musicians and famous personalities. The West Indies cricket team became the greatest in the world and the film shows old footage of their sheer talent.
Personally, as I wasn’t alive at the time it is perhaps a little hard to relate to however I still found the film very enjoyable. It was compelling and fascinating to see how these group of men took revenge and dominated the cricketing world.
Fire in Babylon documents the achivements of these fantastic players wonderfully. This film is a must-watch for all cricket fans young or old.
Thanks for reading, if you’ve watched the film then let me know what you thought of it.
