Ricky Ponting becomes a shareholder in Altrincham FC
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting holds 500 shares in Altrincham FC, an English football club, based in Altrincham, Greater Manchester .
The owner of the club, which participates in the Conference North, the sixth tier of English football, Mr. Geoff Godwin, also happens to be the owner of Eccles-based coach company Go Goodwins, which supplied the tour bus for the 2009 Ashes series. Using that opportunity, he became great friends with Ponting who then started being very generous to the club.
He donated a lot of valuable cricketing memorabilia which was sold to raise funds for the club. Impressed with his generosity, Godwin has given him the shares on behalf of the club.
Altrincham FC, known for its giant killing abilities, holds the record for knocking out as many as sixteen League sides in the FA Cup.
