Acknowledging the craze for the sport, the 28-year-old said that the fans come out and support the team regardless of the situation and credited the fans who have packed every venue where the Men in Blue have done well.

“People follow the sport like crazy. They want their team to win, they want to come out and support no matter what, which is good to see. All the venues we've played at we've got tremendous support. It's our responsibility to [win] for them and make them happy,” Rohit told the ICC website.

The hosts are carrying good momentum into the semifinal, having won two must-win encounters against Bangladesh and Australia, while their opponents are coming into the match, on the back of a loss to the spirited Afghanistan side, who beat them in their last Group encounter in Nagpur.

However, the right-hander isn't willing to take the Darren Sammy-led side lightly, adding that they play fearless cricket and that makes them unpredictable.

West Indies are [some] of the most dangerous competitors. The way they play cricket is fearless. You can't expect what's coming. You've got to be ready in all departments,” he said. “We know their strengths, but they have weaknesses as well, we'll try to exploit that,” he said.

Rohit has been off-color in the event so far, having failed register a single 30+ score in the competition and will look to play a bigger role for India on Thursday.
