Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against England after suffering a fracture on his finger. Murali Vijay, who was part of the Test side, has been named as his replacement.

Rohit struck a patient half-century in the 2nd ODI, scoring 52 off 87 at Cardiff. Further contributions from Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni pushed India to a 300+ total followed by a collapse by England which resulted in a comfortable 133-run victory for the visitors (D/L method).

Ex-Indian batsman and current cricket analyst, Akash Chopra tweeted about Rohit’s injury, mentioning that the batsman has fractured his middle finger on the right hand.

Vijay, his replacement, was the highest scorer for India in the Test series, ending with 402 runs in 5 Tests, with a high score of 146. He also struck two half-centuries. He last played an ODI in July 2013 during the tri-series in West Indies, where he was making a comeback after 2 years, his last ODI before that coming in January 2011.
