Rohit Sharma's 5 most embarrassing moments on the field

The transformation of Rohit Sharma both as a batter and a captain has been simply phenomenal. The current Indian skipper has transformed his game across formats at the twilight of his career which has benefited the team as well.

He has led from the front, especially in the white-ball formats, and has provided the template to the team on how the game should be approached. Even during the recent second Test against Bangladesh at Kanpur, it was Rohit Sharma’s tactical acumen and go-for-win-at-all-costs mentality which helped them win from a seemingly impossible situation.

Back in June, Rohit became just the third Indian captain to lift a World Cup title after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. India also broke their ICC trophy jinx, winning the T20 World Cup after 17 years. Ever since becoming the Indian captain, he has taken the team to new heights in all three formats.

Rohit is someone who never shies away from expressing himself on the field. Time and again his one-liners caught on the stump mic have gone viral. Despite sometimes deliverig some stern words on the ground, he shares an amazing rapport with the youngsters and always keeps the team environment lively.

Despite all his heroics, he has gone through some embarrassing moments on the field as well. Here are Rohit Sharma’s five most embarrassing moments on the field:

# 5. When Rohit Sharma gave a mouthful to some of the youngsters for loitering around in the field

It was during the Visakhapatnam Test against England earlier this year when Rohit Sharma’s stump mic chatter went viral. This was not the first time when Rohit Sharma was heard using expletives towards his players.

Seeing some of the youngsters loiter around, Rohit said, “Koi bhi garden main ghoomega to m** c*** dunga.” India were trailing 0-1 in the series and needed a turnaround to keep the series alive. He wanted his players to pull up their socks and give everything to secure a win.

The stern words from the skipper rejuvenated the players, especially some of the youngsters Rohit was referring to, as they went on to register a convincing victory in the Test and eventually sealed the series 4-1. Despite India’s win, it will remain an embarrassing moment for Rohit as his expletives went viral within no time.

# 4. Rohit Sharma holds the embarrassing record of the second most ducks in IPL

While he has been an Indian legend and arguably the greatest IPL captain in history, he won't be too pleased with this unwanted record.

Rohit has been dismissed for a duck seventeen times and held the top spot for most ducks in tournament history before Dinesh Karthik took that spot after recording eighteen ducks. Despite MI’s immense success as an IPL franchise, Rohit Sharma’s IPL numbers don't justify the talent he has with the willow.

# 3. Wardrobe malfunction during an IPL match

Rohit faced an embarrassing moment on the field when his pants slipped while fielding during an IPL 2024 game against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It was during the 12th over or the CSK innings that Rohit’s trousers slipped while trying to take a catch off Ruturaj Gaikwad. He couldn't quite take the catch and to add to this embarrassment, there was a wardrobe malfunction as well.

The video went viral in no time and social media was flooded with funny comments on the unexpected moment. Even during a recent episode on the Kapil Sharma Show on Netflix, Rohit was asked about the incident and his reaction was enough to indicate that he felt a bit embarrassed.

# 2. When Rohit Sharma was all at sea against Dale Steyn

Rohit Sharma is someone who makes batting look ridiculously easy when on song. More often than not, cricket pundits have gone gaga over Rohit having that extra second against even the rapid fast bowlers. However, against Dale Steyn, Rohit has looked vulnerable on more than one occasion.

During an ODI against the Proteas in 2013, Rohit looked clueless against a masterclass of swing and seam bowling from Dale Steyn. Rohit couldn't even put bat to ball and kept missing deliveries.

He took seventeen deliveries to get bat on ball and received a standing ovation from the crowd after doing so.

# 1. When Rohit Sharma totally misread the pitch in Bengaluru

Getting all out for less than 50 in a Test match could be one of the lowest points for any captain but it happening in home conditions is scarcely believable. Rohit Sharma couldn't quite read the conditions and decided to bat in Bangalore in the first Test against New Zeland.

India was literally blown away by the New Zealand pace attack led by Tim Southee. The conditions were pretty challenging and the New Zealand seamers made full use of the challenging overcast conditions. India were skittled out for 46, registering their lowest-ever Test score in home conditions.

At the post-day press conference, Rohit admitted that he couldn't analyse the pitch and took the blame for India’s shambolic performance. This will be one of the most embarrassing moments for any captain in his cricket career.

"I am hurting to see this score of 46 as a captain as it was my call to bat first. But one or two bad calls in a year is quite alright. It was my misjudgement to bat first. I was expecting a flat pitch, but I couldn't read the pitch well," Rohit said.
