Ross Taylor to consult eye specialist following issues with his vision

Ross Taylor averages just 11.44 in his last 10 Test innings

New Zealand may have won the first Test against the Pakistani team on Sunday but the team suffered a major blow as Kiwi batsman, Ross Taylor, complained about his visions during the third day's play.

The right-hand batsman has been having this issue for quite some time now and the New Zealand team management stated on Sunday that Taylor would be consulting an eye specialist this week.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson stated that Taylor couldn't come in to bat at his usual no.4 position during the New Zealand’s second innings as the issue got worse making it difficult for him to have a clear view. He also went on to say that it might be one of the reasons why the right-hander was having a bad run at the international stage lately. Taylor had a similar eye test about last year and went on to score a career-best 290 against Australia following some medical attention.

The New Zealand feared that the batsman’s vision may have deteriorated further. Taylor has been having a terrible run in the last few Tests and averages around 11.44 in his last 10 Test innings.

ESPNCricinfo quoted Hesson as saying, "Twelve months ago he had his annual check-up, got some eye drops and scored 290 in next game. In last few months it appears to have deteriorated a little bit."

"We'll get some further info from the specialist. We all need regular check-ups, and about six months ago, Ross had no issues at all. It might have come on a little bit quicker than we would like. Ross was keen to get it seen to," he added.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson also seemed to be concerned with the veteran batsman's issue. Speaking at the post match press conference he said, "Ross is at the moment having a little bit of trouble with his eyes so he's looking after those at the current point and will take all the necessary steps to make them better."

"At this stage, we are not 100% sure what it is. There's a growth that's come across a little bit. It's been fine for long time, and been monitored for long time. It is a gradual thing as opposed to something that's very sudden," he said.

New Zealand won the first Test against Pakistan at Christchurch by 8 wickets and debutant Colin de Grandhomme was adjudged the man of the match his sensational figures of 6/41 in the first innings.
