Ruby Kanchi Warriors’ bowler speaks about the presence of Brett Lee

Murthy Prabhu, the Ruby Kanchi Warriors’ bowler, spoke to the media after his team’s defeat to the Chepauk Super Gillies in the India Cements TN Premier League.

Do you think 90-95 was enough on this wicket and also considering the line-up you were facing?

Murthy Prabhu (MP): I thought we were 10-15 runs short — 115 might have been a par score. But, the way we started, I thought we would make a match out of it. A couple of things — J Kousik’s over and Nilesh’s (missed) stumping changed the match. If we had that stumping go our way or that over had gone for lesser runs, we would still have been in the game.

Considering the small margin for error, what was your strategy and how did you want to go about it (defending the total)?

MP: Our strategy was to pick wickets quickly. We got a couple of wickets (early), but we did not sustain the momentum. After the first four overs, we had two wickets and had conceded 16 runs. If we had sustained that momentum for three (more) overs, then we would have been able to push.

How was it like having Brett Lee in the dressing room?

MP: It was only a short interactive session. Whatever he spoke, it was all positive. The boys were very happy with the positive vibes he gave.

What was the thought behind batting first?

MP: We thought the outfield was wet and the bowlers will find it difficult to grip the ball. Since we had spinners in our team, we thought batting first was the better option. Plus, last game we chased, so we didn’t do well.
