Sabbir Rahman warned by Bangladesh team management

Sabbir Rahman was fined for his on-field behaviour

Bangladeshi cricketer Sabbir Rahman has been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the past few weeks.  The batsman was fined by the ICC in the second ODI against England cricket team for his on-field behaviour.

Following Sabbir's accrual of the demerit points, the Bangladesh team management has warned him over his behavior. Bangladesh cricket team manager, Khaled Mahmud said that he has spoken to Sabbir regarding this issue.

"We have already spoken to him about the risk that he is facing regarding the suspensions," he said on Tuesday.

"He is aware where he stands. After what happened in the last game, I think he has to tone down his celebrations, avoid doing what he did in that incident. He can obviously celebrate but within the appropriate limits," Mahmud was quoted as saying in The Times of India.

Sabbir was warned by the ICC's Code of Conduct after the first ODI against Afghanistan in Mirpur on 25th September 2016. He received two demerit points and fined 30% of his match fees for arguing the umpire's leg-before decision and then making inappropriate comments.

His second Code of Conduct breach happened during the second ODI against England in Mirpur on 9th October 2016. Sabbir and skipper Mashrafe Mortaza were charged for their extravagant celebrations following Jos Buttler's dismissal and an argument ensued. Both Sabbir and Mortaza were fined 20% of their match fee and also received one demerit point apiece.

However, Bangladesh team manager supported ICC's new rule. He said that the rule allows the players to know where they exactly stand. He said, "I think the new system is quite helpful to the players. They now know where they stand in terms of the demerit points. Previously he may have been suspended after the second incident but now he has another chance."

The new rule states that if a player acquires four demerit points within a span of 24 months then it will be converted into two suspension points. And two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is.

Sabbir currently has three demerit points against his name, and one more breach of the ICC Code of Conduct could land him a suspension of one or more games.
