Sachin Tendulkar attends session at Rajya Sabha, greets MPs with autographs

Sachin Tendulkar at Rajya Sabha

The Sachin Tendulkar phenomenon continues even after he retired from cricket. After being a star for the cricket fans in India, Tendulkar ran into some very important people in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Sachin Tendulkar resumed his duties as an MP when he attended the Upper House for the first time during the current winter session of Parliament.

Tendulkar, clad in a checkered shirt and  black pullover,  walked in to the floor from the Chairman’s chamber just before the House was called to order. The Indian master batsman was greeted by the fellow MPs as he walked through the aisle to his designated seat.

The Chairman Hamid Ansari congratulated the Indian star batsman on being conferred with the highest civilian award and said that it was a “matter of great pride that the government has decided to confer Bharat Ratna on Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, a nominated member of the House and an outstanding cricketer.”

The members of the house extended their congratulation by thumping their desks as Sachin Tendulkar stood up and accepted the applause with folded hands.

However, the real drama began after the house was adjourned. The members of the house queued up to meet the Indian legend and a few of them even lined up for an autograph from the legend.

Tendulkar greeted everyone with a smile, a handshake and pleased his colleagues with autographs.

This was the second time Tendulkar attended the Rajya Sabha, the first time being in the monsoon session.
