Sachin Tendulkar credits IPL for Indian cricket's recent successes
Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) more than the Ranji Trophy to the recent successes of the Indian cricket team.
Talking during an IDBI Federal Life Insurance event in Mumbai, Sachin reckoned that the IPL has given the youngsters exposure and made them believe that they can compete against anyone in the world before pointing out that everyone takes notice only when a player does well in the IPL.
Tendulkar affirmed, "IPL, I think, has had a tremendous contribution. It has given exposure to our youngsters; to believe that they can compete against anyone in the world. I think we are in that fortunate position to dominate in the world. We have the right balance but overall I feel (if) you do well in the IPL, everyone takes notice."
He added, "Those guys may have done really well in Ranji Trophy or in the Duleep Trophy but the rest of the world does not know about it. IPL takes you to a different level altogether. That has been our strength and in the last 10 years of IPL, we have seen more and more young talent flourish, and that is only because the right platform was provided."
He also heaped praises on the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav for playing a big role in India's first-ever series win in Australia before recalling an incident from 2016 where he spoke about the perfect team balance comprising exciting youngsters and experienced seniors.
Tendulkar also affirmed that India’s win in Australia will attract the young generation to take up playing cricket before pointing out the contributions of Cheteshwar Pujara as one of the biggest factors behind India's victory Down Under.
Meanwhile, the 12th edition of the IPL will get underway on March 23 and the schedule for the same will announced in the coming days.
