Sachin Tendulkar first Indian cricketer to feature on Wisden Almanack's cover
Sachin Tendulkar is set to become the first Indian to feature on the cover of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, which is going to be published in April 2014. It’ll be Wisden’s 151st edition.
The Indian cricketer and legend, Tendulkar retired from all formats of the game in November 2013, bringing an end to a 24-year-old career.
Sachin was also awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, receiving the award from the President of India on Tuesday (February 4). He became the first sportsperson and the youngest recipient of the award.
Michael Vaughan was the first cricketer to feature on the cover of Wisden Almanack in 2003. Only 9 times have players featured on the cover of Wisden Almanack.
The 2013 edition, which was their 150th edition of Almanack, does not have any player on the covers, instead the logo of Wisden was on the cover.
“Sachin simply picks himself,” said Lawrence Booth, the Wisden editor. “His status and influence on the game are beyond question. Wisden is delighted to add its own tribute to an exceptional career in this year’s Almanack.”
The 2014 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack will be published in London on Thursday, April 10, 2014.
