Sachin Tendulkar and Pepsi set to combat Maharashtra drought issue
Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar along with PepsiCo will reportedly come together to help the Maharashtra government handle the dry spell in Marathwada. The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting with Sachin Tendulkar yesterday, regarding the aforementioned issue.
Earlier this month, the Bombay High Court had ordered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift the Indian Premier League matches out of Maharashtra after 1 May 2016 due to the drought conditions that have arisen in the Indian state.
Moreover, such is the extent of the drought that a PIL has been filed in the Karnataka High Court to move the IPL games out of the neighbouring state of Karnataka as well.
Marathwada is one of the worst affected areas in Maharashtra where, according to recent numbers, many important dams of Aurangabad, Beed, Parbhani, Nanded, and Osmanabad have been left with no water.
"Delighted to meet Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar. He and Pepsi are assembling an arrangement for dry season help in Marathwada," the Maharashtra Chief Minister tweeted after his meeting with the 'Master Blaster’.
Sachin Tendulkar dragged into the drought issue
Earlier this month, amidst the ongoing Maharashtra drought problem, the former India batsman and Sachin Tendulkar's childhood friend, Vinod Kambli managed to find himself in the limelight courtesy a controversial tweet of his.
The 44-year-old former Indian left-handed batsman had tweeted that the “Bharat Ratna” awardee, Sachin Tendulkar, would be the best individual to provide an assessment of the ongoing debate regarding the shifting of the Indian Premier League matches out of a drought-ridden state.
Here is Kambli's tweet on the issue:
It will be interesting to see what the 44-year-old now has to say after the Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed Sachin Tendulkar’s role to help the state government in finding a solution to this major problem.
