Sachin Tendulkar scores record-equaling 81st first-class century

Sachin Tendulkar equaled Sunil Gavaskar‘s first-class record by scoring his 81st hundred and in the process completing a phenomenal 25,000 runs in first-class cricket at the Wankhede stadium, where Mumbai are taking on Rest of India in the Irani Cup. Tendulkar and Gavaskar are now joint holders of the record of most first-class centuries scored by an Indian.

Having posted a massive 526 in their first innings, Rest of India picked up 6 Mumbai wickets for just 257, but they weren’t able to dismiss the master blaster on Day 3. In his second hundred during the the Irani Cup, Tendulkar smashed 12 fours and two sixes as he reached the milestone in 139 balls.

Indian players like Harbhajan Singh and S Sreeshanth tried their best to get rid of the master blaster. But for Sachin it took only 139 balls to score a staggering 100.

Along with the splendid achievement he also managed to complete 25000 runs in the first class cricket. He now has  18 while playing in Ranjhi Trophy, 3 in Duleep Trophy, 2 in Irani Cup, 5 in India’s tour games, 1 against a visiting side and 1 for Yorkshire.

In international cricket, the living legend has 100 hundreds, including 49 in ODIs and 51 in Tests.

While he may have equaled the original little masters – Sunny Gavaskar’s record, the list for most centuries in first-class globally is topped by Jack Hobbs, who has a staggering 199 centuries.  Sachin is ranked 43rd in the list of the players with the most first-class centuries.
