Sachin Tendulkar records: All records held by the "Master Blaster" in Tests and ODIs

Tendulkar before the start of his Test career against Pakistan in 1989

One had to just attend a match at the Wankhede and see the massive wave of applause echoing around the ground to understand what Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar meant to Mumbai and the whole of India. Age and a troublesome elbow had dimmed the light a little during the latter half of his career but he was still a light-footed, dancing genius with his whipped flick remaining an object of wonder.

Tendulkar was a very naughty kid as a child and that was the reason his step brother Ajit Tendulkar took him to his coach Ramakant Achkrekar to make him learn more about the game and in order to keep him away from all his pranks and mischiefs. From there on, his life changed like a fairytale and there was no looking back for the “Master Blaster”. He started making giant strides as a school cricketer.

Along with his childhood mate Vinod Kambli, the duo notched a breathtaking 664-run partnership for their school Shradhyashram Vidyamandir in 1988 which was the highest partnership for any wicket in professional cricket till very recently.

The child prodigy became the only Indian batsman to score centuries on the debut of each major domestic tournament including the Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy as a 15-year-old kid. The kid sensation made his debut for India within a year against Pakistan and, became the youngest Indian and 2nd youngest overall to appear for his country.

Though his debut series wasn’t a perfect start to his international career but his two fifties in the series was enough to give everyone the indication that there was a star in the making.

Tendulkar went on to score his maiden Test century against England in 1990 and there was no looking back since then. In the series against Australia in 1992, Tendulkar evolved from a boy to a man on the field. He scored a majestic century in the world’s fastest track – Perth, against a fiery bowling attack and the whole world took notice of this batting sensation.

In the following years, Tendulkar kept on scoring runs for India in every condition and against every opposition. For 24 long years, the “Little Master” kept the hopes of 1 billion Indians alive through his bat and probably that was the reason why, “If cricket is a religion in India, then Sachin is their god”. By the time he retired from international cricket in 2013, Tendulkar was the holder of almost every possible batting record in Tests and ODIs.

Three years after his retirement from international cricket, let us relive all the batting records of Sachin Tendulkar in Tests and ODIs.
