Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne recall their first battle in Sydney
The seeds of the legendary rivalry involving Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne were sowed during India’s tour to Australia in 1991-92. The two greats of the game have recollected their first memories of facing each other in a video that was released by Shane Warne on his official website.
In a clip that was recorded before the Lord’s bicentenary match involving Rest of the World and the Marylebone Cricket Club earlier this year, the two shared their thoughts on each other on what was their first meeting in a Test match at Sydney.
"I first came across Sachin in my first Test match when I was picked for Australia. It was the 1991-92 series. We were in Sydney and I had obviously heard a lot about him. Sachin came out and smashed us all over the park. It was our first sign of him," Warne said.
Speaking about the occasion, Tendulkar, who is the highest run scorer in international cricket history said: "We heard the Aussies had a new leg-spinner and he turned up in a Porsche. He did not have a great Test at Sydney (150/1), but it was evident that there was a spark and that this guy would do something special."
