Sachin Tendulkar undergoes knee surgery in London
Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar might have long retired from the game of cricket but the rigours of playing hectic international cricket for more than 20 years is still having its effects. The Master Blaster took to social networking site Instagram to reveal the news that he had undergone a knee surgery at a hospital in London and posted a picture of his left leg, covered in a cast.
Ardent Tendulkar fans who was over the past few days accustomed to images posted by the man himself on his Twitter account during his solitary tour through the United Kingdom unsurprisingly reacted in shock, with the post on Instagram generating huge hype and attracting comments, mostly wishing the batting maestro a speedy recovery.
Since his retirement from cricket after the home-Test series against West Indies in 2013, Tendulkar has kept himself acquainted with cricket, releasing his autobiography “playing It My Way’ as well as play an important role in the affairs of Indian cricket, most notably as one of the three members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that nominated Anil Kumble as India’s new head coach over a week or so ago,
Apart from cricket, Tendulkar has ventured into other sports as well, by grabbing the ownership rights of Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters that made it to the final of the inaugural edition of the ISL before losing to Atletico de Kolkata in the final. With the new season just a few months away, Tendulkar is making sure that he is in the best possible shape to enjoy his team’s matches at the various venues and thus decided to undergo the long-pending knee surgery.
It will be harsh to say that the move was sudden as Tendulkar had even taken part in the meeting to decide India’s new coach via video conference and though the reasons for his absence were not revealed, one can easily assume that the 43-year-old was planning to undergo the surgery all along.
“Some injuries trouble even after retirement, but I will be back very soon doing the things I enjoy. Had a knee operation & resting,” Tendulkar wrote in his Instagram post.
