Sachin Tendulkar - What was the hurry Sir?
Well then, the greatest show of recent times is over. It was a grand show involving sentiments of millions of fans. I had never seen such a deep impact of any individual over an entire nation. Time virtually came to a standstill – almost everyone who knows even a little about the sport was anxiously waiting to see Sachin Tendulkar score the remaining 62 runs to complete his century. But alas, one misjudgment and he was gone. So were the hopes of millions of people watching him across the globe.
Ravi Shastri tried explaining the silence prevailing in the stadium. But everyone was out of words. Should this innings of 74 be considered as a failure? Not in my book. People, what I intend to say is that 74 runs in the last match is not a bad proposition.
Rahul Dravid said that we have got Virat Kohli who can hopefully fill the void left by Sachin, but I simply do not agree. There is no doubt about the capabilities of Virat Kohli – but it takes a hell lot of contentment, patience, and willpower to stay calm and making your bat talk. Virat Kohli is very aggressive and impatient. Although he is doing well but it is impossible to change one’s fundamental characteristics.
Thereafter, Aamir Khan started admiring Sachin’s hard work, focus and love for the game. He came up with the possible justification for Sachin’s dismissal, that perhaps it was due to the pressure that the master lost his concentration. But I think that the power of judgement of the Master Blaster has been badly affected in recent times. There was no need to attempt that shot on the leg side in the first place.
We cannot simply deny the fact that Sachin Tendulkar has contributed so much for so long, that our expectations became almost wild. But a million dollar question popping up in the minds of millions of die hard supporters is that “what was the hurry to attempt that particular shot?”. Even Sachin himself was looking frustrated after he lost his wicket.
One of the very heart touching banners held by a fan of Sachin read “Sachin, you are making millions cry, please do not go”. This truly elaborates the feelings of millions. To be honest, many of his fans feel that during the last two days, his game was going fairly well and we didn’t expect to see him getting out this way. Anyway, let bygones be bygones. We should be happy that he was in good form in his last ever innings.
However, his unparalleled contributions in spreading the love for the game of cricket throughout the nation will always be appreciated. We wish his performance in the last Test could have been even better. We bow down to you Sir!
