Sanath Jayasuriya unable to walk without crutches
What’s the story?
Sri Lanka’s legendary all-rounder Sanath Jayasuriya, who is currently 48 years old, is going through a tough time. The former chairman of selectors, Jayasuriya is currently suffering from a severe knee injury. The extent of the injury is so bad that he is unable to walk without crutches.

Jayasuriya had a brilliant career where he played 586 international games, scored over 21,000 runs and picked up 440 wickets. He was also a key member of the World Cup-winning Sri Lankan side in 1996. The Matara Mauler (as he was nicked) called time on his career in June 2011 in England.
He was appointed as the chairman of selectors in January 2013 and headed the selection committee for more than four years. He recently resigned after Sri Lanka were tour-washed 9-0 by India in August-September last year.
Sri Lanka’s poor results across all three formats were one of the main reasons for Jayasuriya’s departure.

Reports suggest that he has been suffering from this knee issue for a while now. And in the last few days, he has been in the news for this severe injury.

What’s next?
According to reports, the great Sri Lankan all-rounder is set to undergo a surgery on his knee in Melbourne. It has also been reported that Jayasuriya will take at least a month to recover after the operation and hence, he will be kept under observation till then.

While it was a treat to watch Jayasuriya during his playing days, it is pretty sad and painful to watch the great Sri Lankan player go through so much pain. Let’s hope that Jayasuriya recovers quickly and returns to the best of health.
