Sandeep Patil terms comeback man Yuvraj Singh's recent form as 'special'
Yuvraj Singh’s remarkable performances in the ongoing Vijay Hazare has earned him a much-deserved call-up to the T20 squad, to play Australia next month. In 5 matches so far this season, Yuvraj has managed to score 341 runs, with a highest score of 98.
Selector Sandeep Patil termed Yuvraj as a “special” player and stated that the team along with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni were happy to have him back to the squad. Yuvi hasn’t played a T20I game for over 20 months now.
His last appearance for India was way back in April 2014, when India played Sri Lanka in the final of 2014 World T20 in Dhaka, which India lost. Ever since that time, he was out of contention for the squad and had to work extremely hard to fight his way back to the squad.
His exploits in the Ranji Trophy this year, along with consistent performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has made the selectors sit up and take notice of his evergreen abilities, and he was aptly rewarded his place in the T20 squad for the Australian Tour.
India are set to play a brief series down under, featuring five ODIs and three T20Is, before they host the all-important T20 World Cup at home. The dashing Punjab all-rounder will look to grab his rare opportunity with both hands, and would want to cement his place in the squad for the World Cup as well.
