Sanjay Manjrekar faces the ire of Twitterati for his tweet about Root and Gabriel
What's the story?
Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his views on the stump mic issue which arose during the third test match between West Indies and England. On the third day of the third test at St. Lucia, West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel was warned by on-field umpires for using abusive language following his spat with opposition captain Joe Root. Manjrekar hailed the stump mic responsible for this issue and he took it to Twitter to voice his opinion. However, the Twitterati savagely trolled the former Indian player for asking the International Cricket Council (ICC) to introspect on the use of stump mics.
The background
Shannon Gabriel's comments were not picked up by the stump mic but Joe Root was heard telling the pacer: "There's nothing wrong with being gay." The on-field umpires, Rod Tucker and Kumar Dharamsena had an exchange of words with Shannon after that incident. However, Manjrekar insensitively tweeted out his views on this matter, just to face the ire of the Twitterati soon.
The heart of the matter
Seeing the recent issues which have popped up in cricket due to the stump microphone, Manjrekar tried to get ICC's attention on this thing. But, Manjrekar also tried to protect Shannon Gabriel, who had apparently called Joe Root a gay, in his tweet which angered the cricket fans.
Here are some of the top tweets trolling Manjrekar.
What's next?
This is not the first time that Manjrekar has been trolled on Twitter for his tweets which the public took to be insensitive. Earlier, he had got into trouble after trying to troll Indian tennis star, Sania Mirza on the micro-blogging site. On the other side, England won the third test comfortably by 232 runs but West Indies won the 3-match series 2-1.
