Sehwag and Gambhir guide Delhi to a win in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Splendid batting by Guatam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag led Delhi to a six-wicket win over Himachal Pradesh in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 tournament. The former Indian opener duo made 82 runs in 11 overs.
Sehwag made 42 runs in 32 balls and his innings included 5 fours and a six. Gambhir scored 41 off 40 balls with 6 fours.
Chasing 135, Delhi got off to a flier courtesy Sehwag and Gambhir but lost 4 wickets in quick succession as Unmukt Chand and Mithun Manhas followed the openers back to the hut cheaply. However, Rajat Bhatia (13) and Milind Kumar (22) guided Delhi to victory in the 19th over.
Earlier, skipper Gambhir won the toss and put Himachal Pradesh in to bat first. Paras Dogra hit a 41-ball 40, anchoring the innings while Nikhil Gangta (29 off 16) and Rishi Dhawan (27 off 24) were other notable contributors as Himachal Pradesh ended up on 134.
Pacer Ishant Sharma, who has been dropped from the national squad following woeful form, was the highest wicket-taker for Delhi, claiming 2 for 22 off his 4 overs.
