Series versus Zimbabwe is the first step to bring back cricket to Pakistan : Wasim Akram

Wasim will be playing alongside Lara and Gilly in the MCL

Legendary Pakistani fast bowler heaped praise on the PCB and the people of Pakistan on the successful completion of the home series against Zimbabwe. “The fervor showed by the Pakistani crowd during the zimbabwe series proves the point that they cannot be deprived of cricket for a longer time,” he said. He was talking to the media during the presentation ceremony of the Masters Champions League (MCL).

“The bomb blast happened during the second ODI during the second ODI outside Gaddafi stadium will not prevent the teams to visit Pakistan.  Everything went smoothly apart for that one incident and that too it is not concrete and nobody knows what really happened in that particular incident, “ added Akram.

The 49 year old legend spoke on many issues related to Pakistani cricket and the fans. “It should be noted that all the five games against Zimbabwe were packed though it was 48 degrees hot. People were queuing up three to four hours before the game and the whole country watched every ball. This is the passion we have in Pakistan for the game and we cannot keep away cricket from Pakistan.”

Akram thanked the Pakistan Cricket board for arranging successful series as well as Zimbabwe for coming to Pakistan. He is currently working with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders as a bowling coach consultant cum mentor.

On the Masters Champions League (MCL):

“It will be fun and exciting. We are all looking forward to it something very different and which I thought will never happen. Frankly, I never thought I would be asked to come and play a game again, although cricket is the only thing we know. Let us hope the first edition is a success and everybody is looking good and will try and give hundred percent in the matches.” The MCL will start in February 2016.
