Shah Rukh Khan claims 2016 edition of CPL 'will be the biggest party in cricket'
Bollywood superstar and owner of multiple cricket franchises Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He also believed that the combination of West Indian flair and increasing popularity of T20s in the region would turn the tournament into a huge carnival.
Speaking to the media, the co-owner of Trinbago Knightriders, Khan claimed, “We're counting down to the start of CPL, which I believe will be the biggest party in cricket. We have assembled some of the best players from the West Indies and across the world this year and I know our players are raring to step out on to the field and represent Trinidad & Tobago with pride.”
With CPL returning to the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, Shah Rukh Khan added, “I know we can count on the full support of the Trinbago fans to cheer TKR as we commence the defence of our title.”
Khan also co-owns the Kolkata Knightriders team who were knocked out of the 2016 Indian Premier League in the eliminator. However, he is hoping that defending champions Trinidad & Tobago would be able to continue their upward surge in the forthcoming edition of the CPL.
They had clinched their inaugural CPL title last year as Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel. Revamped under the name of Khan’s IPL franchise, the Trinbago Knightriders kick start the proceedings against St. Lucia Zouks on June 29 at their home ground.
