Sherfane Rutherford pulls out of remainder of CPL 2024 due to personal reasonsĀ

St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots batter Sherfane Rutherford's 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign has come to a premature end. He was not part of the franchise's recent clash against the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, with a statement from the league confirming that he will not partake in the remainder of the tournament due to personal reasons.

Rutherford, who was part of the West Indies playing XI during the T20 World Cup and the bilateral series against South Africa at home, scored only 35 runs in four innings this edition. The left-handed batter was dismissed for a duck on two occasions, including his last outing against the Barbados Royals.

Prior to the 2024 CPL, he was part of the Montreal Tigers side that made it to the finals of the GT20 Canada. Unfortunately, he endured a dreadful campaign on that occasion as well, scoring only 38 runs in six matches at an average of 9.50.

St.Kitts & Nevis Patriots replaced Rutherford with Dominic Drakes in their recent clash, which was one of the three changes that they made to the playing XI in a bid to end their losing streak.

The franchise are yet to name a replacement for Rutherford as they languish at the bottom with just one win out of six matches. Their campaign has taken a turn for the worse, with all-rounder Kyle Mayers sustaining a hamstring injury during the loss to the Falcons.

St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots have 4 matches remaining in the CPL 2024 league phase

The 2021 CPL champions have an uphill task to keep themselves alive for a spot in the playoffs. They have four matches remaining in the league phase, with the next contest scheduled against the St. Lucia Kings on Thursday, September 12.

Franchise skipper Andre Fletcher had remarked that they will be on the lookout to win the remainder of the games.

"I must thank the crowd for supporting us throughout, I want to apologize and say sorry for not giving them a win. All is not lost, we still got a few games and will be trying to win those," Fletcher said during the post-match presentation following the loss to the Falcons.

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots' sole win this season came during the season opener, where they etched a thrilling one-run win against the Falcons in the reverse fixture.
