Shikhar Dhawan's boundary shatters Sunrisers Hyderabad analyst's laptop

He doesn’t have a copybook technique, or great feet movement, but when Dhawan hits a cricket ball, he generates tremendous power on his shot. During the Sunrisers Hyderabad fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders, the wrath of his shot, or the credit could also go to Trent Boult’s pace, smashed a laptop belonging to the Sunrisers Hyderabad support staff.

In the first ball of the second over of the Sunrisers innings, Dhawan received a short of length delivery from Trent Boult. In his trademark style, he stood tall and tried to smack the ball past point. The extra bounce, however, took a thick edge off his bat, and it flew past Suryakumar Yadav at first slip. It had enough fuel to sail through the ground, right in the direction of the Hyderabad team dugout. Surprised by the pace of the incoming missile, the support staff scurried for cover, but an open laptop, probably belonging to the analyst, was left stranded.

The white cork smashed on the backside of the white laptop’s screen, giving it a hard thwack that would have been difficult for anyone to recover from.

The best reaction, however, came from VVS Laxman, mentor of the Hyderabad team, who was sitting right next to the laptop. Unimpressed by Shrinivas, the analyst, running away, he gestured at the laptop, suggesting why he should have tried stopping the ball, instead of letting it thud onto the laptop.

Shrinivas then opened the lid, saw the lifeless screen, and signalled the end of the laptop. Laxman, still seething at the lack of fielding skills shown, gestured at Yuvraj Singh and Tom Moody after showing his disapproval at poor Shrinivas.

The completely shattered screen of the laptop suggested that it won’t operate anytime soon. Bipul Sharma, who himself ran for safety from the incoming shot, had his hands on his head when he saw the smashed laptop being scrutinized. The system, possibly carrying terabytes of data about team information and videos, will now find its way to the scrap heap after recovery is done. Dhawan himself couldn’t last long, skying a ball to Colin de Grandhomme off Yusuf Pathan, to end his 23-run stay at the crease. Poor Shrinivas, however, won’t forget Laxman’s face in a hurry, and might have to join the pre-game fielding sessions to hone his catching and fielding skills to guard the next laptop that comes his way.
