Shikhar Dhawan forced to go off after suffering hand injury during warm-up game

An injured Shikhar Dhawan is attended by the physio

Indian southpaw Shikhar Dhawan was hit by an Atif Sheikh delivery in India’s warm-up match against Leicestershire.

The Delhi batsman looked in fine knick as he had already scored 60 runs from 100 balls before the 18-year-old Sheikh’s delivery hit his right hand. Dhawan was unable to move his hand as he was attended by the physio. He later left the field retired hurt.

At 8 pm IST, India were 201/2 from 55 overs with Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli batting on 31* and 17* respectively. Gautam Gambhir earlier retired out for 54, after Murali Vijay was dismissed for 20.

India will be hoping that Dhawan’s injury is nothing serious as Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s troops are in England in their bid to exorcise the demons of 2011 when they faced a shameful whitewash at the hands of the English.
