Shoaib Malik in trouble following Big Bash appearance

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik finds himself in a spot after flying to Australia to play in the Big Bash League while the domestic tournament is still going on in Pakistan.

Pakistan International Airlines(PIA), who are the employers of the all-rounder, <are reportedly miffed with Malik after he decided to go and play in Australia without taking permission.

“He has gone at a time when we thought he was injured and not available to play. But now we find that he is playing in the Big Bash today while his team is struggling in the ongoing domestic President’s Cup tournament,” a sports official from the PIA said.

“I think senior players like Malik have to decide where their loyalties lie because PIA needs him now in the President`s Cup,” another team official said.

Malik had sustained a finger injury during the 2nd T-20 international between Pakistan & South Africa at Abu Dhabi. Although the all-rounder had been picked in the squad for the T-20 & ODI squad when Pakistan traveled to South Africa  in November, he had to return without playing a single game.

Interestingly, Malik captained the PIA team in the domestic tournament for a couple of games in early December but hasn’t appeared for them since.

The PIA officials are likely to give Shoaib Malik a chance to explain before taking any final disciplinary action.
