SK ADDA: Is the Indian bowling unit "world-class" now?
SK Adda is where you - the fan, the critic - have the final word on all cricketing matters. In yesterday’s question, we asked you if India has finally found itself a world-class bowling attack.
The Indian bowling outfit has been on fire in the ongoing series at the Caribbean. They’ve claimed 56 of the 60 West Indian wickets on offer across the three Tests so far. If Ashwin ran riot in the second innings of the first test, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami shared the spoils in the first innings. And while rain curtailed India’s charge at Kingston, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s first-inning five-for set up victory for India at Gros Islet.
And it’s not just the quicks that have dented the West Indian line up, the Indian spinners have chipped in as well. Amit Mishra picked up three wickets in the first and second Test match and his replacement, Ravindra Jadeja did the same in the third Test.
A five-bowler strategy hasn’t been employed by India with consistency in the past. But with the change that Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble have ushered in, the emphasis seems surely on bowling the opposition out. And that was what prompted us to ask you if you thought Team India has finally found itself a world-class bowling attack.
58% of all respondents agreed vehemently, while 33% felt India still had a long way to go before being brand a world-class bowling outfit. Meanwhile, there was another 9% who felt they had to wait till India played New Zealand and Australia before crowing the Indian bowling as world-class.
All said and done, there’s no denying however, that the Indian bowling unit has hogged the sunshine and limelight on this Caribbean tour. And we’re glad that you’re enjoying watching them pound the West Indies in their own backyard.
Here are some of your comments that we feature.
Rahulaxil Berthaume “Yes, India have a world class attack and Bhuvi is the best example. He can swing the ball even without bowling fast. Shami also can trick the batsman when he bowls with discipline.”
Prasenjit Chakraborty “India has couple of great bowlers but they are not a world class bowling side in world cricket. They have to improve their bowling in Australia, South Africa and England.”
Abhilash Preethy Venkat “No. India certainly has some good bowlers, but they have been inconsistent and have not been able to produce match winning spells on flat decks. The line-up is not yet stable and steady. In comparison to the bowling line-ups of England, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia, the Indian attack lacks experience.”
Jaswinder Sharma “Yes, but only against teams like West Indies and other Asian teams. But not against Australia, England and South Africa.”
Agha Jan “You guys will get the answer after the tours of Eng, Aus, S.A & NZ. For the present time, I should say Indian bowlers are doing a perfect job outside of India. Especially the fast bowlers.”
