Over it’s nine-year history, the Indian Premier League has given some special moments, particularly in the field. Spectacular catches, incredible saves and many more moments provide the fans with reason to remember the game, well after it’s over.

One such moment happened on Friday as well, during the Gujarat Lions innings, when New Zealand and Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Trent Boult put in a Superman effort at the boundary to save some runs for his side.

Off the second delivery of the 14th over bowled by Piyush Chawla, Suresh Raina lofted the leg-spinner over the mid-wicket fence for what looked like sure shot six, until Boult came into the picture.

The Blackcaps speedster leapt in the air, caught the ball and found himself in the air over the line with the ball in hand. Just when he seemed to realise he was to land on the ground with the ball in hand, he threw the ball back into the field of play to save two runs for his side.

You can watch the amazing effort here.

The effort generated applause from all corners, the most humorous one coming from Boult’s fellow New Zealander in the box Danny Morrison, who commented by saying, “ WHO SAYS KIWIS CAN’T FLY!”

The effort was sensational because of Boult’s exceptional presence of mind to toss the ball back into play in the nick of time and it was indicative of the ever-growing fielding standards in the modern game.

Social media was in full praise of Boult’s sterling effort:

This isn’t the first time that we have seen an effort as athletic as that on the boundary. One of the moments of last year’s IPL involved Shane Watson and David Wiese acrobatically pull off a sensational catch at the edge of the boundary at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The effort involved Watson first grabbing the catch and realising he was too close to the rope, throwing it back to Wiese, who was in the vicinity, who took the catch and completed the incredible effort.
