Smith, Marsh hit unbeaten hundreds as Australia march on

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Steven Smith and Shaun Marsh scored unbeaten centuries as Australia marched towards a big first innings total on the third day of the third and final test against Sri Lanka on Monday.

Australia captain Smith had reached 104 and opening batsman Marsh was 110 not out as the touring side went to lunch on 235 for one wicket.

Sri Lanka, who have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, recovered from 26-5 to post a first innings total of 355 and still lead the world's top-ranked side by 120 runs.

Resuming on 141-1, the pair added 94 runs in the morning session, taking their unbroken second-wicket partnership to 214.

Marsh, playing his 18th test after a gap of seven months, was the first to get to his hundred, his fourth in the format, with a fine paddle sweep off Dilruwan Perera that went to the boundary.

The 33-year-old, who replaced opener Joe Burns for this match, enjoyed a spot of luck while on 64 when Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews failed to hold on to an edge at slip off a Rangana Herath delivery.

Smith used his feet brilliantly against the spinners and brought up his 15th test hundred with an on-driven single off Perera.
