Sourav Ganguly turns down BJP's proposal to contest 2014 Lok Sabha elections

No politics for Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly today said that he has refused BJP’s offer to contest 2014 Lok Sabha elections on party’s ticket.

Earlier, BJP had put forward the proposal to the ex-Indian skipper to contest polls, with party’s Prime Ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi reportedly suggesting that the famed ex-cricketer would be appointed sports minister if they won.

Today, on the side of a TV shoot at Wankhede, Ganguly confirmed party’s interest but said that he isn’t interested in the offer. “Yes, the BJP did make an offer. However, I have declined it. I won’t be contesting the elections,” he said.

Ganguly’s ex-teammate Sachin Tendulkar is a member of Parliament currently, and when asked if he would like to join his ex-opening partner in the upper house, he denied having any such intentions.

“No. My place is cricket ground, not the Parliament,” Ganguly confirmed.
