Sourav Ganguly thinks there is no need to debate over MS Dhoni’s future on public platforms
What's the story?
BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly has spoken about MS Dhoni’s future in cricket. Ganguly mentioned that there is ‘absolute clarity’ on Dhoni’s fate before saying that the officials cannot discuss certain things on a public platform.
The background
Indian wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni has been away from the cricket field ever since New Zealand knocked India out of the 2019 World Cup. Dhoni has taken a break from international cricket and in his absence, the selectors have handed the wicket-keeping responsibilities to Rishabh Pant.
With the selection committee so high on Pant, the fans feel that the Jharkhand-born gloveman would never come back to play for the Indian team.

The heart of the matter
Talking to PTI on Friday (29th November), Sourav Ganguly commented on the situation surrounding Dhoni and said:
"There is clarity, but certain things cannot be said on public platform. There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time. There’s transparency between the board, MS and the selectors. When you deal with such champions - MS Dhoni is an unbelievable athlete for India - certain things have to be kept within the closed doors. It’s very transparent and everybody knows where they stand."
On being interrogated about head coach Ravi Shastri’s statement of IPL 2020’s importance in Dhoni’s return, Ganguly said:
“We will see what happens, there’s enough time. Of course it will get clear (within three months).”
What’s next?
Earlier this week, MS Dhoni had put off his retirement talk until January. Hence, it will be interesting to see what shape the scenario of his return takes following the turn of the year.
