Sourav Ganguly inducted into MCC World Committee

Saurav Ganguly

Former Indian Skipper Saurav Ganguly will become only the third Indian after his former fellow team mates Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble to be inducted into the Marylebone Cricket Club later this year as reported by Wisden India.

Ganguly has accepted MCC Chairman Mike Brearly’s invitation to become a part of the prestigious panel which already comprises of names like Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss, Steve Waugh and Kumar Sangakkara.

The panel meets twice a year to discuss about the issues and developments of the game.

In recent times, the panel has been vocal about implementation about the Decision Review System (DRS) which came under spotlight after number of controversial umpiring decisions were witnessed during the recently concluded Ashes Test series.  In the meeting last year the panel felt the process should come under the ownership of International Cricket Council (ICC) rather than television companies.

MCC, which was founded in 1787, will celebrate its bicentenary of Lord’s on July 5 when a Sachin Tendulkar led MCC XI will take on a Shane Warne led Rest of the World XI in a 50 overs match. The match will be played by various stalwarts of the game, some of whom include names like Kevin Pietersen, Adam Gilchrist, Brian Lara and Muttiah Muralitharan.

The current panel comprises of Mike Brearley (chairman), Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Charlotte Edwards (England), Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble and Sourav Ganguly (India), Tim May, Steve Waugh and Rod Marsh (Australia), Shaun Pollock and Dave Richardson (South Africa), Jimmy Adams and Steve Bucknor (West Indies), Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) and Majid Khan (Pakistan).
