Sourav Ganguly joins Mukul Mudgal probe committee

Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has joined the Justice Mukul Mudgal-led probe committee, appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the betting and spot-fixing allegations in the 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League. The 5-member panel also consists of Additional Solicitor General L Nageswara Rao, senior advocate Niloy Datta and senior IPS officer BB Mishra.

After meeting for the first time, at New Delhi, Justice Mudgal said, “Yes, Sourav joined the investigations today (Wednesday). It was the first time after his appointment that we met in person. The meeting took place at my office and I would like to think that discussions were indeed very fruitful.

“We had already sent the relevant documents that Sourav would have required to study before our meeting. He came well prepared. Beyond that I am not in a position to divulge anymore information. From now on any meeting of the committee will be held in my office.”

The committee has also been handed over the responsibility to verify the veracity of the claims that a set of 13 cricketers, whose names are in a sealed envelope submitted to the Supreme Court, were also involved in spot-fixing apart from those who got banned after the sixth edition of the IPL.
