South Africa A tour of India: Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma to lead the visiting squads
What’s the story?
In the South Africa A squad announced for the upcoming tour of India, international mainstay Aiden Markram has been assigned the captaincy duties of the four-day matches squad, while Test match specialist Temba Bavuma has been given the one-day captaincy.
In case you didn’t know…
The tour has been scheduled to act as a preparation series for the Proteas and for the incumbents to put their name forward to selection, prior to the series between South Africa and India that is to start from September 15th.
The heart of the matter
Cricket South Africa announced the squad for the ‘A’ tour in a press conference on June 29. CSA National Selection Panel convener, Linda Zondi said that this tour will important in various aspects. He said:
This is one of the most important South Africa A tours we have planned for some time. One of these is to broaden our leadership group and we see both Aiden and Temba playing an important role in this regard. We will be looking at other candidates during the course of the new season. Another is the opportunity to give some of our senior batsmen the chance to acclimatize for the Proteas Test match tour to India in October, and a third is to give an opportunity to younger players who have earned their chance through the outstanding performance the at domestic level.
Players like Heinrich Klaasen and Anrich Nortje, who could not make it to the Proteas’ World Cup squad were also included in the teams.

One-day squad:
Temba Bavuma (c), Matthew Breetzke, Gihahn Cloete, Junior Dala, Theunis de Bruyn, Bjorn Fortuin, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, George Linde, Janneman Malan, Wiaan Mulder, Anrich Nortje, Sinethemba Qeshile, Lutho Sipamla.
What’s next?
Inclusions like Beuran Hendricks and Markram are still in midst of the World Cup. The Proteas, who have been knocked out of the semi-final contention, will next play Australia on the 6th of July in their final match of the tournament.
