South Africa announces ODI and T20 squad for Sri Lanka tour
South Africa has announced it squad for the five ODIs and three T20 international to be played in Sri Lanka. There are not many surprises as the chief selector Andrew Hudson said they are looking for consistency in the squad which they are building for 2015 WC.
Fast bowler Morne Morkel, who got injured with a quad strain, has been named in the South Africa squad. Meanwhile, rookie wicket-keeper, Quinton de Kock has earned a recall. Dale Steyn, who needs meanwhile was rested as he is still recovering from injury
Imran Tahir and Wayne Parnell were included for the T20 squad only, where there is a surprise selection in form of an uncapped David Wiese.
On Greame Smith and Dale Steyn, Andrew Hudson, the selection convener, said: “We are resting Dale Steyn as we have a very important and crowded Test season ahead of us, and we want to be absolutely certain that, as the leader of our attack, he is properly rested and fit. Graeme Smith obviously could not be considered because of his long-term recovery process following surgery.”
The Lankan tour will be played from July 20 to Ausgust 6. It begins with ODI series in Colombo and ends with a T20 match in Hambantota.
