South Africa vs Bangladesh, 1st ODI stats: Hashim Amla breaks Virat Kohli's record

Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock both registered centuries as South Africa beat Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the first ODI in Kimberley yesterday.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh managed to post their highest ever total against the Proteas. Mushfiqur Rahim scored an unbeaten 110 off just 116 balls while all other batsmen reached double figures to help the team reach 278 for 7 at the end of 50 overs.

However, that score was not enough. Amla remained unbeaten on 110, while De Kock scored 168 not out to help South Africa reach the target with 43 balls to spare.

282* - The partnership between Hashim Amla and Quinton De Kock, which is the highest partnership to win a List A match by 10 wickets. The previous best was 277* between Aakash Chopra and Shikhar Dhawan for Delhi against Punjab in the 2008 Ranji Trophy.

282* - The third best opening stand in ODIs between Amla and De Kock. The highest is 286 between Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga against England in Leeds in 2006. The second highest is 284 between David Warner and Travis Head against Pakistan in Adelaide in 2017.

7 – The third best most ODI wins by 10 wickets. West Indies top the list with 11 while New Zealand are second with 8. India and South Africa are tired at third with 7.

154 – The number of innings Hashim Amla took to reach 26 ODI hundreds which is the least. Virat Kohli held the record previously having completed 26 centuries in 166 innings with Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting at third and fourth.

4 – The number of times Amla and De Kock have scored centuries in the same innings. Amla and AB de Villiers top this list with 5. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly have also achieved this feat four times.

3664 – The total partnership runs between Amla and De Kock in 77 stands - the most by any South African pair in ODIs. They went past Herschelle Gibbs and Graeme Smith, who have 3607 runs together.

7 – The number of times Amla has been involved in a double century stand in ODIs. Kohli leads the chart with 10 instances. Ricky Ponting and Upul Tharanga are tied with Amla.

86 – The number of innings it took De Kock to reach 13 ODI centuries. Amla took 83 innings to achieve the feat, which is the least. Kohli and De Kock are tied at second.

David Miller is only the third player to have not featured in a Test match for his country inside his first 100 ODIs. Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard accompany him in that club.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the first Bangladeshi to score an ODI century in South Africa.
