South Africa vs India 2013-14: Yet another magical show by Ravindra Jadeja
Well, whatever might be the outcome of second Test being played at Durban between South Africa and India, the contribution of Ravindra Jadeja will be remembered. The way the South Africans were playing the Indian pace attack comfortably, it appeared that the match will either be drawn or South Africa might win it.
But then Jadeja has again emerged as a rescuer for team India. What a timely spell by him, resulting in four important wickets. Owing to the wonderful spell by Jadeja, team India has remained in the race for winning this important match and making up for the defeat in ODI series.
During India’s first innings, three batsmen unfortunately got out for a duck – namely Zaheer Khan, Rohit Sharma and Jadeja. Rohit has struggled in this series and Zaheer can be excused as he is a bowler. But for me, the most shocking event was seeing Jadeja going back to the dressing room without scoring!
But then he is called “Sir” for a reason – he has shown his class with the ball. Though he is one of my personal favorites, but without being prejudiced, I intend to highlight his performance. Prior to today’s match, Jadeja had played 5 Tests and taken 27 wickets with an excellent average of 19.87.
It is his passion for the game which makes him give 100% every time. He is always able to strike on time, bailing out his team. He has proved to be an excellent all rounder as his fielding is also remarkable. Many of his fans still fondly remember his brilliantly catch off his own bowling against West Indies recently. He also seems to be as fit as ever!
In fact, he has got a pretty cool temperament and he is very often seen smiling – even when he is not able to get the desired results with his bowling or while batting. Another vital element is that he remains carefree while facing the bowling of any of the deadliest bowlers. Perhaps this contented attitude has helped him getting the 7th ranking in the ICC ODI world bowling rankings.
Given his unabated efforts which usually bring in positive results for India, many of his fans are wondering as to why his services were not availed during the crucial first test. Anyway it is better to be late than never.
We earnestly hope that this 25-year-old dependable all rounder – who has already taken the place of Yuvraj Singh – will continue to render his wonderful services to team India for many years to come. He is a true magician and off course one the most loved in the Indian sports arena. It gives immense pleasure seeing him spread his magic time and again. He is becoming the lucky charm for team India.
