South Africa vs India 2018, 4th ODI: Things which went wrong for the visitors

South Africa's incredible run in pink continued as they staged a stunning turnaround and defeated India by 5 wickets (D/L) to keep their hopes alive in the series.

Chasing a revised target of 202 (28) in a rain-curtailed match, the hosts crossed the finish line inside 26 overs to get their first win of the ODI series at Johannesburg on Saturday.

South Africa were on the verge of losing 4 ODIs in a row for the second time in history but they managed to soak in the pressure and turn the game on its head.

India lead the six-match series 3-1 and the 5th ODI will be played at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, February 13.

Now, let us have a look at what went wrong for Virat Kohli & Co.

#5 Middle and lower order collapse

Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first at the New Wanderers stadium in Johannesburg. Rohit Sharma (5), who made yet another early exit, was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for the 6th time on the ongoing tour.

Captain Kohli and opener Shikhar Dhawan then stitched together a 158-run partnership for the second wicket to put India in cruise control mode.

Kohli, who fell 25 runs short of his 3rd ton of the series, was removed by Chris Morris for 75, while Dhawan (109) became the first Indian player and 9th overall to score a century in his 100th ODI before being undone by Morne Morkel.

Soon after, Lungi Ngidi got rid of Ajinkya Rahane (8), India lost the momentum and could not capitalise on the solid start provided by the two Delhi batsmen.

At one point, the visitors looked on course for a score in excess of 300, but, they ended up scoring just 89 runs and lost 5 wickets in 15.4 overs after the rain interruption.

Despite a vital cameo of 42 not out off 43 balls by MS Dhoni, India could manage only 289/7 in their quota of 50 overs.
