West Indies beat South Africa by 3 wickets in their Group 1 match at Nagpur. With this loss, South Africa’s ambitions of qualifying for the semi-finals hangs by a thread as they depend on Sri Lanka to beat England at Delhi tomorrow. On the other hand, West Indies became the second team after New Zealand to qualify for the semis.
Afer put into bat, South Africa were completely outplayed as they were restricted for just 122 runs. Quinton de Kock scored 47 for South Africa while Andre Russell, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets apiece.
In reply, West Indies were off to a disastrous start as they lost the wicket of Chris Gayle in the very first over. West Indies were in control of the match until Johnson Charles got out. After his wicket, there was a collapse in the West Indies batting order, but Marlon Samuels and Carlos Brathwaite managed take their team home. Marlon Samuels top scored for West Indies with a run a ball 44. Imran Tahir took 2 wickets for the Proteas.
