Sportskeeda Adda: Team India’s combination for the second Test

Anil Kumble and Virat Kohli will have their task cut out with regard to choosing the right combination

Sportskeeda Adda is where we ask you – the fan, the critic, the loyalist – for your take on cricket. In yesterday’s poll, we asked you if the Indian Cricket Team needs to make any changes for the second Test?

“Never change a winning combination”! You probably hear the coaches and connoisseurs say this more often than not. After all, why tamper with a side that has just handed the hosts a big defeat. That said, we couldn’t resist tempting you with options to chop and change the Indian side for the second Test.

While the majority of you (42%) chose to have the side play unchanged, there were several who would rather see Pujara sit out the second Test. 26% wanted KL Rahul to replace Pujara and 20% of you wanted Rohit Sharma to take the Gujarat batsman’s spot.

While we couldn’t publish all comments, here are a select few that represent the cross-section of opinions that we received.

Fans’ opinions on what changes are needed for the second Test

“No change”

Ajay Kishore Das “Dropping Pujara will be huge mistake. And by the way, why do you want to change the winning combination? Rohit for all his talent is a no-go for tests… yet!”

Shubham M. Gupta “No change! Indian team never changes winning combinations”.

Raj Chauhan  “Nope. India should play with the same squad. Shikhar is in good form and Cheteshwar could become dangerous when occupies the crease. The rest have performed so well in last Test, so there is no place for anyone else in the 2nd Test”.

Luckson Serto “No need to change the squad. Let them enjoy. It's against WI”.

“Jadeja for Mishra”

Ashif Ilahi “Jadeja is in his top form. Dropping him is a dumb decision. Put him in. The Jaddu-Ashwin duo will give you at-least 12 wickets in an innings for sure”.

Arjun Pandit “Definitely Jadeja in for Mishra. Jadeja is 6th rank bowler and rank 3 all-rounder. Mishra is only good for lower order batsmen who can't read his googly”.

Rohit for Pujara”

Manish Tawade “Pujara's defensive and attacking shots both haven't been good yet. He has failed to do what he is known for. His defense has been shattered by all the bowlers who he has faced and also, his problems will continue on bouncy pitches which started against Aussies. Also, Rohit Sharma is good choice to bat at number 3”.

“KL Rahul for Pujara”

Ashish Bharma “On a personal note I would prefer KL Rahul over Pujara. Yes no doubt Pujara has been a good addition to the Indian team and has performed well. But looking at the recent performances and the way KL Rahul is adapting to any conditions of the game, I believe he must be given a chance”.

AShu MiShra “Definitely KL Rahul should be given the chance. He is in his prime form and shouldn’t waste his form by keeping him sidelined”.

And an other perspective too…

Prasad Kotamsetti  “Whatever you do, don't bring Rohit Sharma. His shocking dismissals at important junctures of a Test match has cost India so many times”.
