Sri Lanka retains 6th rank in ICC Test team rankings; India playing to remain 2nd
Host Bangladesh held on for a draw in the second and final Test in Chittagong, but it was Sri Lanka who won the series 1-0 and held onto sixth place on the Reliance ICC Test Team Rankings Table.
The 1-0 scoreline meant that Sri Lanka dropped one ratings points to finish on 89 in sixth place, two ahead of seventh-ranked West Indies, but 11 behind fifth-placed Pakistan. Bangladesh, on the other hand, gained one ratings points to remain in tenth place at 19.
Sixth-ranked Sri Lanka entered the series with 90 ratings points, leading tenth-ranked Bangladesh by 72 ratings points.
Sri Lanka had entered the final Test with a 1-0 lead, needing to win or draw to retain sixth place. A loss would have meant that Sri Lanka slipped behind West Indies into seventh place on the Rankings table. Sri Lanka could have also slipped down further, to eighth place, if New Zealand had won both the Tests in its ongoing series against India.
As a result of the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series, New Zealand can at the most move up a place to seventh, while India is playing to retain its second position. India has to win the 2nd Test and draw the series against New Zealand to remain 2nd.
