GALLE, Sri Lanka (AFP) –
Sri Lanka beat New Zealand by 10 wickets on the third day of the opening Test in Galle on Monday to gain a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The hosts effortlessly chased down a 93-run target, with debutant Dimuth Karunaratne remaining unbeaten with 60 and Tharanga Paranavitana 31 not out.
New Zealand, trailing by 26 runs on the first innings, were shot out for 118 in their second innings after lunch.
Middle-order batsman Daniel Flynn top-scored for New Zealand with 20, while Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath finished with 6-43.
The second and final Test starts in Colombo on Sunday.
