Sri Lanka name new T20 captain
With Mahela Jayawardene quitting the captaincy of the Sri Lankan T20 side after the World Cup, the Sri Lankan board has named Angelo Mathews their new T20 captain. Mathews had been serving as vice-captain since July 2011. He has been given the responsibility for a period of one year, and with Mathews as the skipper, the post of the vice captain has been handed to Lasith Malinga.
Mathews has been a fine servant of Sri Lankan Cricket for almost four years now, contributing with both the bat and the ball and having taken responsibility when needed. He’s very young, and if things fall into place, he has a long career ahead of him. This seems to be a good move by the Sri Lankan board. Mathews has so far featured in 35 T20s, 81 ODIs and 26 Tests.
