Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 2017: Taskin Ahmed becomes the fifth Bangladeshi to take a ODI hat-trick

Taskin Ahmed took the hat-trick in the final over of the Sri Lankan innings

Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has become only the second cricketer from his country to claim a hat-trick in One-Day International cricket. The 21-year-old removed Asanka Gunaratne, Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Pradeep off the final over of the Sri Lankan innings to all out them for 311.

The first dismissal saw Gunaratne look to clear the in-field only to be caught by Soumya Sarkar at mid-off. The second dismissal was a caught behind dismissal where in, Lakmal mistimed a heave over mid-wicket and wicket-keeper Mustafizur Rahman ran all the way, dived full length and took a fine catch.

The hattrick delivery saw Taskin delivery a terrific yorker which went through the defenses of the Nuwan Pradeep, much to the delight of the bowler and his teammates.

Taskin’s hat-trick is the 5th in the history of Bangladesh cricket in ODIs. Shahadat Hussain, Abdur Razzaq, Tajiul Islam, Rubel Hussain are the four other cricketers from the country to have taken a hat-trick in ODIs.

The Mashrafe Mortaza-led side have a good chance of winning a second straight match on this tour if they manage to track down 312 in 50 overs. In the opening ODI, they put up 324 runs on the board and then bowled splendidly with the ball to dismiss the hosts for 234 and win the game by 90 runs.

There was much drama before the hat-trick was taken as a dog walked on to the field and after it left te field, Ahmed claimed the hat-trick in the following over.
