Sri Lanka's Kithruwan Vithanage allegedly involved in sex scandal
Sri Lankan player Kithruwan Vithanage could face a disciplinary action after he was allegedly spotted by a senior teammate with a Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) association female secretary in his hotel room during the just concluded Test match against Pakistan at Galle, which the home team won, according to Asian Mirror reports.
The report further says that the female secretary, appointed by Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage a few years back, was found walking into the Lankan middle order batsman’s hotel room during one of the nights.
An SLC representative, who doesn’t want to reveal his identity, said that the board is looking for the CCTV footage before taking any further steps on the issue. “Then”, he said, “cricket authorities can proceed with a disciplinary inquiry”.
Vithanage has represented his nation in a combined total of 13 international matches: 6 One Day Internationals, 6 Tests and 1 Twenty20 international. The southpaw made his international debut back in March 2013, against Bangladesh. While he hasn’t made a mark yet in the international arena, with 3000+ runs in First-class cricket and the imminent retirements of senior players, the 23-year-old could be in for an extended run in the national team.
With Sri Lanka going 1-nil up, the second and the final Test match starts on August 14 at Colombo.
