Sri Lankan players may skip IPL 6

Sri Lanka players might not feature in this year’s IPL.

With the ongoing political unrest in Tamil Nadu, the Sri Lankan players taking part in the upcoming Twenty20 Indian Premier League 6 may not be welcomed in the state.

Chennai will be hosting a total of 10 matches and there are 11 Lankan players in the tournament. Owing to the row over the alleged persecution of Sri Lankan Tamils, it is expected that the political parties in Tamil Nadu will oppose the presence of the Sri Lankan players in their state.

With big names like Kumar Sangakarra, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene in the Sri Lankan contingent, the BCCI may ask the players to skip the event for security reasons.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalitha, had earlier cancelled the Asian Athletics that was scheduled in February. She had said that the Sri Lankan athletes will not be welcomed in the state.
