Sri Lankan youngster slams seven sixes in an over

A Sri Lankan youngster has taken the cricketing world by storm after smashing as many as seven sixes in an over in a domestic match. Named Navindu Pahasara, the batsman was playing for Revata College Balapitiya in the final of U-15 Murali Goodness Cup.

The tournament was organised by Muttiah Muralitharan - and Foundation Of Goodness - who heaped praise on the youngster for his blistering knock. Pahasara, through his knock of 89-ball 109 runs in the match that was played at the Hikkaduwa Sri Sumangala MCC Lords on Saturday, helped his side post a total of 283 for the loss of seven wickets in 36 overs.

Dharmapala Kottawa, the opponents, in reply only managed to amass 72 runs, as Revata won the final by 211 runs. Lohan Arosha was the star with the ball for Pahasara's team as he picked a fifer and gave away only nine runs. The batsman was adjudged man of the match for his sensational knock and received the trophy from none other than Muralitharan himself.

Notably, this might be the only instance of a batsman hitting seven sixes off an over - one of them came on a no-ball. Previously, the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Herschelle Gibbs have slammed sixes on all six deliveries off an over at the international level. While the former sent England's Stuart Broad for six maximums in the World T20 2007, the South African hit the Netherlands leg-spinner Daan van Bunge for the same in the 2007 ODI World Cup.

In 1985, now India senior team's head coach Ravi Shastri had also hit six sixes in an over in a first-class encounter. Before him, only Sir Garry Sobers held the record.
