Stats: Top 5 batsmen who played most dot balls in IPL 7

Dwayne Smith, the 2nd highest run-getter in IPL 7, also played the most number of dot balls in the tournament

The West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Smith, played the most number of dot balls this IPL season, but was also the second highest run-getter. Smith also clobbered second highest number of sixes(34) after the KXIP rockstar, Glenn Maxwell who hit 36 sixes, the most in the tournament.

Robin Uthappa, who bagged the Orange Cap, is at the 2nd place, having played 165 dot balls in the tournament.

Batsman Team No.of Dots played
Dwayne Smith CSK 188
Robin Uthappa KKR 165
Shikhar Dhawan SRH 141
Brendon McCullum CSK 137
Virender Sehwag KXIP 136

?1. Dwayne Smith (CSK)

Out of 416 balls, 188 ended up with no run whatsoever. Yet he managed to score 566 runs in the tournament which shows the remarkable amount of fours and sixes he has hit. But also it shows that he did find it difficult to rotate the strike. Had Smith managed to rotate the strike better, he would have scored a few more and might have helped CSK more during the qualifiers.

?2. Robin Uthappa (KKR)

As the Orange cap holder, it is understandable that he is a part of this list. He is the only batsman to have scored more than 600 runs in the tournament and he had a strike rate of 137.78. Also worth mentioning is the fact that he created a world record by registering 10 consecutive 40 plus scores.

?3. Shikhar Dhawan (SRH)

Dhawan’s impact on the tournament was very much limited. One of the reasons why the Sunrisers couldn’t make it to the playoffs was Dhawan’s indifferent form. Despite having a decent average of 29, his strike rate was well below his normal standards.

?4. Brendon McCullum (CSK)

Despite forging a successful partnership on top, one of the major complaints everyone had at McCullum and Smith were the fact that they were not rotating the strike enough and were wasting a lot of balls. That explains his strike rate which is at 121. The team management would have taken note of this and will look to improve on that next season.

?5. Virender Sehwag (KXIP)

A bit of a surprise to see Viru on this list. He too does most of his scoring with the help of boundaries. Despite struggling to make big scores during the initial stages of the tournament, Sehwag came out with a bang against CSK in the second qualifier with a majestic hundred. Viru finished with an impressive strike rate of 144.
