Stats: Alastair Cook becomes youngest player to play 150 Tests

Australia v England - Third Test: Day 1
England opener made history on the first day of the Perth Test

On the back of Dawid Malan's maiden Test century, England ended the first day of the third Ashes Test at Perth on 305/4. It was a long day for the hosts who were hostile with their bowling early in the innings but fizzled out towards the end of the day. At the end of the day, along with Malan (110*), wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow was at the crease.

After England won the toss and elected to bat first, they lost Alastair Cook early. But a fifty from Mark Stoneman and a brilliant fifth wicket partnership between Malan and Bairstow, which stands at 174 at the end of the day, helped England end the day in command and keep their hopes of retaining the urn alive.

Here are some interesting statistical highlights from the first day's play at Perth:

1 - Alastair Cook is the first England player to play 150 Tests.

11 years 288 days - Alastair Cook has featured in his 150th Test 11 years and 288 days from his debut. He has taken the fewest days of any player to achieve that. The previous record holder was Rahul Dravid, who took 14 years and 200 days.

32 years 154 days - Cook became the youngest player to feature in 150 Tests. He got there before his 33rd birthday, beating the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who got there when he was 35 years and 106 days.

3 - This is only the third time that England have posted 300+ on the opening day of a Test in Australia since 1900.

5 - Dawid Malan becomes the fifth English batsman to score their maiden Test century at the WACA. Brian Luckhurst (1970), Chris Broad (1986), Jack Richards (1986) and Ben Stokes (2013) were the others.

8 - Cook became only the eighth player in Test history to play 150 Tests.

9 - Cook hasn't scored a Test fifty in nine innings since his 243 against West Indies at Edgbaston, equaling his worst run in Tests.

10 - This was Jonny Bairstow's first fifty in 10 innings. He ended a run of nine successive innings without a fifty. That is the third time he has endured such a streak, his longest in Tests.

305 - England's tally of 305 is their highest on day one of a Test in Australia since 2002 when they made 295/4 in Adelaide.

1966 - The last time before today that England scored in excess of 300 on the opening day of a Test was at the MCG in 1966.

2010 - The last time an England pair added more than 100 for the fifth wicket in a Test in Australia (before Malan and Bairstow) was in 2010 when Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell added 116 in Adelaide.

2013 - Malan's century is the first by an English batsman in an Ashes Test in Australia since Ben Stokes scored 120 in Perth in 2013.
